Moonrise Weekend

Pete and I were super pumped for the opening of Moonrise Kingdom. We went to the 12:30pm show on Friday (we always know where the old folks are), and savored Wes Anderson’s newest masterpiece.

Afterwards, we indulged in burgers (mine veggie), fries (Pete’s old), and decadent strawberry rhubarb pie shakes at Edzo’s in Evanston. Edzo himself mans the register and manages the line—like his hot dog counterpart, Doug. We highly recommend lunching at this little yellow nook–even if you aren’t in the neighborhood!

On Saturday afternoon, after SociaBulls and a nap, we headed down to Wicker Park for the Do-Division fest (we always know where the bros are). Pete and I bounced our heads to sets by In Tall Buildings (one of our local faves–I love when lead singer Erik Hall plays his cute green guitar), Mannequin Men, Craig Finn, and The Besnard Lakes. We were joined by our friend Matthew, many guys in salmon colored shorts, and were visited by a pair of adorable Chinese Crested dogs–Tasso & Tula. Mannequin Men light-heartedly heckled the bro heavy audience. They put on a great show–and Pete remarked that he enjoys a band with both a dude in polyester pants and a dude in jorts. As a longtime Hold Steady fan, I was tickled to see Craig Finn walk into the fest with his guitar, make his way behind the stage, and visibly enjoy the Mannequin Men set. This was his first solo performance without a backing band—just a couple of Miller Lites. I found it to be charming.

Sunday was lovely, and we spent it taking Stickers to the beach, enjoying dinner in my parents’ backyard, and battling on the tennis court. That Pete can really pull out an amazing serve when he wants to. Must be all that French Open coverage on in the studio.
